Really gorgeous and impressive rpi from a rather young band from Italy. Undeniable classical influences with passionate vocals and great drumming. Thanks for the tip AMS!
Favorite track: Horror Vacui.
Unreal City are a young band from Parma, who present a symphonic prog-rock with strong dark and gothic influences. Born in April 2008 from an idea of keyboardist / singer Emanuele Tarasconi and guitarist Francesca Zanetta, the original line-up was then joined by Francesco Orefice on bass guitar (in 2010) and Federico Bedostri on drums (in 2012). In June 2012 Unreal City released a self-produced EP and were therefore contacted by Fabio Zuffanti (Hostsonaten, La Maschera Di Cera, Finisterre…), who decided to produce the band's first album for the label Mirror Records.
“La Crudeltà Di Aprile” has been recorded at Hilary Studio in Genoa under the expert guidance of Rossano “Rox” Villa; it contains surprisingly mature music, mixed with modern lyrics, that were written in English first, and then translated back to Italian, to clearly transmit the album’s message. The thread that binds tightly the stories tells about corruption of things and people, changes, and self evolution.
Unreal City play instruments such as Hammond and Liturgical Organs, Mellotron, Moog, Clavinet, Rhodes, vintage special effects, reverb and tape echo. Original drum lines push a ‘70s-like music into a more modern and attractive contest, while maintaining certain fixed and essential prog patterns.
Clear ideas, intelligence and an uncommon musical culture for such a young band are the basic ingredients that the four musicians put out, to propose a project that won’t leave indifferent any listener.

Following Sven (sbs) around is really paying off! Another stellar addition to my collection. This production has incredible energy as well as classic RPI influences, lots of lush synth and a great rhythm section in my opinion. I hope to hear more from these guys in the near future! paliojen_black

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the 1975 debut album of this band, just when it was released, and "C'è un paese al mondo" was - and still is - one of my top favorites of 70's Italian symphonic rock. Sadly, the splendid debut was also the band's swan song, but thanks to a recent resurrection, including original lead singer Alberto Ravasini and one of the main songwriters, Sergio Lattuada, we get the pleasure of a late follow-up album, sounding quite authentically like "Maxophone" as we knew it. The Long Island metal band's third album etches arena-sized hooks into their jagged compositions, deftly balancing experimental and poppy inclinations. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 12, 2022

Museo Rosenbach's voice, "Lupo" Galiffi, still going strong 48 years after Zarathsutra's release and joining forces with notable figures of modern Rock Progressivo Italiano (members of La Coscienza di Zeno, Höstsonaten, Ubi Maior...). RPI lovers shouldn't hesitate to get this great album (great songs (melodies, arrangements, great singing and playing). Newbies are invited to acquire the taste. Carsten Pieper
